How to choose the Perfect Wedding Signature Cocktail & 8 Wedding Cocktail Names

Are you planning on having signature drinks or wedding cocktails for your big day? Then we’ve created a short guide to help you and your other half choose the perfect drinks or signature wedding cocktails for your wedding.

Whether your celebrations are inside a wedding venue or outside in one of our stunning wedding marquees, you’ll want to keep your guests refreshed with a first-class signature cocktail that captures the flavours and feel of your special day.

The signature drink at your wedding could be your and your spouse’s favourite cocktail, colourful drinks to match the wedding colours or wedding theme, or cocktails given new, punny names to highlight some aspect of the wedding or your relationship. Your signature cocktails can set the tone of your wedding just as much as the marquee decor, music, and food.

What is your choice of drink when you walk up to a bar? A Mojito? Cosmopolitan? Margarita? Old Fashioned? Moscow Mule? Deciding what you want to be poured from the cocktail shaker is one of the most important things when choosing your signature wedding cocktail. It’s your wedding, after all!

You want your drink not only to be delicious but to represent you. The best part about choosing a signature cocktail for your wedding is you don’t have to pick just one! If you love tequila, but your spouse is more into dark rum, cater to your tastes with a cocktail made for each of you. Creativity is great; however, don’t forget you and your wedding guests will also be drinking this cocktail all night so sometimes classic cocktails can be a good idea.

Match your wedding theme or season

Having a fiesta-themed wedding? How about some margaritas? Festival themed wedding? Try out some sangria, Pimms or aperol spritz. Think about the season. If your wedding is in the autumn, you could use some autumnal flavours. Alternatively, try matching the colours of your wedding if your colours are purple and white, consider doing a Black Forest Fizz. We think cocktails are better when you use fresh and seasonal ingredients. If you’re having a christmas wedding of course you can’t beat mulled wine.

Sweet or Spicy?

If you prefer spicy cocktails, you could try adding spice to your favourite drink, maybe through jalapeño syrup or a pinch of pepper. Just be warned, it might be only you drinking it if spice isn’t to your guest’s taste! For those couples with a sweet tooth for sweeter cocktails, you could try adding honey syrup or simple syrup—alternatively, fresh fruit juices such as lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice.

Add a fresh garnish

Origami Bars only use the finest and freshest ingredients, garnishes & botanicals, which can make your wedding cocktail unique. Citrus slices and berries are great traditional garnishes with fresh herb sprigs like thyme, rosemary, or mint, adding a splash of greenery that always looks and smells stunning. One of our favourite summer garnishes is a fresh lavender sprig!

Give your wedding signature cocktail a fun name

You don’t necessarily have to design your own drink for it to be considered a signature cocktail. Sometimes adding a playful name to your cocktail will suit. This could be something you both love, such as a place or pet. Or use your names or a wedding hashtag to help come up with an original idea

Get creative with the name to make it a wedding-themed treat. Here are some of our favourite ideas below:

  • Mojito: Mint to Be Mojito
  • Margarita: Main-Squeeze Margarita
  • Gin & Tonic: You & Me G&T
  • Beer: Ale You Need Is Love
  • White Wine: Be Mine Wine
  • Sangria: Berry Happy Together Sangria
  • Cider: Always by My Cider
  • Bloody Mary: Bloody Marry Me

Serve the perfect drinks in the perfect glasses

If you prefer spicy cocktails, you could try adding spice to your favourite drink, maybe through jalapeño syrup or a pinch of pepper. Just be warned, it might be only you drinking it if spice isn’t to your guest’s taste! For those couples with a sweet tooth for sweeter cocktails, you could try adding honey syrup or simple syrup. Alternatively fresh fruit juices such as lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice.

Sweet or Spicy?

It’s not just the perfect signature cocktail ingredients you will have to think about. How the drinks are served on your special day can make a big impact on your wedding guests. You’ll need to think about champagne flutes and cocktail glasses like the recent trend of serving in copper mugs.

Sweet or Spicy?

If you prefer spicy cocktails, you could try adding spice to your favourite drink, maybe through jalapeño syrup or a pinch of pepper. Just be warned, it might be only you drinking it if spice isn’t to your guest’s taste! For those couples with a sweet tooth for sweeter cocktails, you could try adding honey syrup or simple syrup. Alternatively fresh fruit juices such as lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice.

Top with something non-alcoholic

Our final recommendation is to pick a cocktail with a lower ABV (alcohol by volume). Although Espresso Martinis have dramatically surged in popularity, they are basically just spirits, and after all the time and money spent on your wedding, you’d probably prefer your guests to remember it. We suggest adding a mixer to your cocktail, so it isn’t as strong. This help keeps people sipping and the dance floor full but not getting out of control. As a bonus, it can also keep the wedding bar budget in check. Alternatively you could try a dry wedding!

Have fun with it

Don’t forget to have fun with it! It’s not every day you get to design a perfect signature cocktail or have one created just for you. No matter wether you’re having an open bar, cocktail hour or crafting a signature drink your nearest and dearest family and friends will remember the personal touch at your wedding reception.
